My Thoughts on the 2016 Presidential Candidates- Part I By @NowWithNicole

Notes I E-mailed to Myself Regarding the 2016 Presidential Candidates

As I have mentioned in previous blog posts and on social media, I have an interesting relationship with American politics. This year, I committed myself to reading the literature of every person who is running for a national, Texas, Harris County, or Houston office. I want to make sure that I have all of the information before voting. I began my research today looking at the candidates who are running as Republicans. The following are my raw notes. They have not been corrected. Some may seem a little politically incorrect, but they are my honest thoughts. I am sharing the information in this format because I feel it comes from a more authentic space. Please remember that these are raw notes.

My Review of 15 of the 2016 Presidential Candidates

Dr. Ben Carson- He’s a neurosurgeon! He’s a pediatric neurosurgeon. He was the youngest division director in Johns Hopkins history. Keep Watching

Skip Andrews- Keep Watching.

Scott Walker- Not Impressed.

Michael Bickelmeyer- He’s nuts. He wants to use some weapon to fight the war on drugs. A lethal beam.

Kerry Bowers- Keep watching.

Jeb Bush- No. No. No!! He voted to cut a homework assistance program and funding for libraries. That is all I need to know.

Dale Christensen- He’s against medicare and social security. Two of the very, very few public programs I support. So, umm, nope.

Ted Cruz- No.

Brooks Cullison- Domestic Violence guy. Yesss!!! I need to vote for him on GP alone. I LOVE IT!

John Dummet, Jr.- Meh. He is more of a no, than a yes, but he is not not a hard no.

Bob Erlich- On the fence.

Mark Everson- Wow!! He’s out there, but in a good way. Keep watching.

Jack Fellure- He refuses to disclose his alma mater. That’s a no. Why the secrecy? He has been running for president since 1988. In 1992, the Federal Election Committee asked him to submit a copy of his platform and he gave them a copy of the 1611 King James Bible. Hilarious. You have to love that faithfulness, though.

Carly Fiorina- No. She tanked HP’s stock. She is big business personified. Her own campaign for Senate ended with a $500,000 debt that has yet to have been repaid. Cares more about big business than harming the climate. No. JUST NO.

Jim Gilmore- He has not officially declared. He’s a republican, but he has some liberal views. Thinks Roe v. Wade was wrong and can’t wait until it is repealed, but he does not oppose women being able to terminate pregnancies up to the 12th week. Tea Partiers probably won’t give him their support.

Learned some very interesting information about what it means to be a naturalized citizen/natural citizen. If your parents are citizens, you are a citizen despite where you are born. The Naturalization Act of 1790.

End of notes.

A key to my notes:

Bold- Will definitely do more research.

“On the Fence”- May do some more research.

“No” or not bolded- Will not do any more research

I will continue to make my way through the candidates and post my notes as I go. I would love to get your respectful feedback. To connect with me further, you can follow me on Twitter at @NowWithNicole.
